Newbie here, Couldn't find an answer to this, forgive me. I acquired a 95 F150 with 300 in it. The engine was missing several things. I got it almost put back together and now wondering about the distributor. Timing gears are lined up, found #1 TDC and now how do I install new distributor since there was not one in it when I got it? Is there a certain way that distributor sits? And do I just line up the #1 plug wire to wherever the rotor ends up? Thanks for any help....
That is 1 way to do it but you may find the plug wires will not be long enough if they are on the plugs already.
Do you have a book you are using for firing order? If so look at the picture of the dist. where it has #1 pointing.
On my 81 the rotor points to about the 8 o'clock and the vacuum advance can points to about the 4 or 5 o'clock.
You will also need to pull the sprout wire to time the motor, this locks out the computer from adjusting the timing, and once timed plug it back in.
