Fan Clutch?

Fan Clutch?

I have a 93 F-150 with the 302 5.0L, I am worried about the temp of the motor. I was wondering what the normal temp is and where should it line up on the temp gage (where should the needel be on the normal). I kinda think the fan clutch is not working. When I am driving with the ac on and come to a stop the ac gets real warm. But when I take off again it starts to cool down to normal. Then when I get to work, after 1 1/2 hours of driving I turn the motor off and open the hood and am able to trun the fan easy. Like the fan clutch has never engaged. Does this sound like a fan clutch that needs replacing? Thank you for any info!

My 94 F150 with a 302 always registers just between the o and the r on normal. Don't know what the actual temp is though. I would like to get one of those infared sensors to find out for sure.

I have read some place that the fan clutch looses about 20 to 25 per cent of its efficiency each year. I have found that I have to replace mine every few years to keep the engine temperature within reasonable limits.

fan clutch

things that make you go hummm. LOL clutch fans can be a pain in the butt. I live in canada i don't use my a/c verymuch. your a/c pump could be going? Does it drive normal operating temps, with your a/c off? If it is still a problem it coould be a simple fluid problem, to a complicated transmision problem( not cooling trany fluid properly)
Hope this gives you a place to start looking. Allways start with the cheapest fix first.

Get your engine warm and watch the fan as someone shuts it off. if its spinning very quickly and doesnt slow down with the engine off the clutch is worn.
