Distributor Set
I have just installed a motor (used) in my E150 van and I am now having trouble getting the timming right. Or good enough to start the motor. I pulled the distributor fron the motor I took out and placed it in the "new motor". I do not see any markes on the engine block or the distributor to line up when inserting the distributor. Any suggestions? I also have a hose that I do not know where it goes! It's actually, two small tubes that come off the intake (on top of air inlet pipes) then it merges into one larger tube. Does this tube connect to my "vaccum maker" thats threaded into my upper manifold? Thanks for your help.

I took the #1 spark plug out and rotated crank untill I saw the piston reach the top of it's stroke. Then I inserted distributor so that the rotor was some what near the position of the #1 wire. Then I rotated the distributor untill rotor was pointing at the #1 wire location. Still will not start. Please let me know if I did this right. I know I have gas, air, compression, and spark. Thanks

sounds almost right. It is important that you have the #1 piston at the top of the compression stroke. While turning the engine you will begin to feel air blowing out of the sparkplug hole as it is coming up on compression stroke. then stop it at the absolute top. Set the dist the same way you did before, and if everything is hooked up correct is should bark right off. If it doesn't check all your connections before you start messing with the dist again..Good luck, Hippie.
