Started to observe a clicking noise when turning steering left/right as the Temps started to dip in the Northern Ohio.
1) Noise is more pronounced when temps are colder as I didn't hear this sound in summer.
2) Ford Dealer greased the steering column and couldn't hear anything.
Well the noise is back and I have another appointment with the dealer to see what is making this clicking noise.
I'm guessing its the clock spring behind the horn button but want the dealer to look into as its under Warranty.
Thoughts after listening to video?? Driving me nuts..
Below is the video showing the clicking sound from this morning that I shared with Service Manager this morning as well.
is the clunking noise noticeably in the cab or outside the cab and in the front somewhere? My noise from the video is noticeable under the horn cover where the air bag is located I'm assuming. Will see what the dealer says the 2nd time I bring it in. I intentially wanted to capture the sound and share it with them so they don't think I'm crazy.
The clunk is definitely coming from the middle of the steering wheel, something is shrinking from the cold and can then move around inside the horn/airbag cover...
2020 F350 same noise coming from steering wheel. Started hearing it when temperatures started to drop. Has been getting worse since temperatures have dropped more. 🥶 Looking forward to see if dealer finds anything. Thanks and Happy New year.
Talked again with Service Manager after he LISTENED to video and we are both leaning toward a defective Clock Spring behind the horn.
Typically a defective Clock Spring shows when the individual buttons on your Steering Wheel start to NOT work but there have been instances the Clock Sprint itself emits strange noises like in my case and many others.
There isn't that many parts behind the steering wheel. Just plastic on plastic and the clock spring.
Told him while i'm in a loaner to keep the truck as long as possible until the problem is diagnosed and fixed.
Same exact noise here. Temps dropped to under 25F and it sounds like a ping pong ball bouncing under the horn cover. Only when you turn right and only for about 1/4 turn at a time. Today 10F and very noticeable. Calling dealer today.....

Any updates on what your dealer advised you about noise?
When I had my 2017 I had multiple trips to the dealer for a sound almost like this when cold out. Eventually they replaced the steering position sensor not the clock spring and all was well.

Thanks for the update I will be sure to pass the info along to Service Department when I drop off truck.
