I have a 350/CCLB/Lariat on order with 5th wheel prep and spray-in liner included. While the 5th wheel prep is a must have, I could easily drop the factory spray-in liner and have one put in after the truck arrives. I've read here that the trucks go to the same 3rd party vendor near the factory for both options. Would dropping just the liner help speed up getting a VIN and scheduled, or would I really need to drop both to make a difference? I also have the Black Appearance Package, but I'm guessing it's on the commodity restriction list because it includes the liner. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Both of those have been known to hold up builds on and off for a long time now, but it’s so back and forth, no one can truly say. However, I’d say it’s a safe bet that the less they have to put on your truck, the better the possibility it will get built sooner…
I actually thought that the 5th wheel prep was done on the line, prior to installation of the bed. Delay being caused by parts availability, or lack thereof. Whereas the spray liner is done by the 3rd party after assembly completion since it requires no disassembly.
If you wanted to drop the spray liner you would have to remove the Black Appearance package entirely.
I have the 5th wheel prep but will do something else for the bedliner (probably Line-X again, maybe Dualiner) and have a build week of Jan 24 and ETA to dealer around mid Feb. I'll believe it when I see it. I've been waiting since April.
My black appearance Package was never scheduled. Has 5th wheel prep.
I bought a 5th wheel prep hitch and was planning on changing up the order to help speed it up. But I ended up with a used one and it has it already. If anyone needs it let me know, I dont.
Does anyone know if the 5th wheel prep is truly done off the line after production?
Thanks in advance,

My truck was built almost 11 months ago and both of those options added maybe one to two days to the build. I don’t think that is where the bottle neck is (Ground Effects Ltd is the company I believe). If you are already waiting several weeks/months, what’s a few more days to get it how you want it?
I ordered mine on April 27. Took delivery on October 29. It has the spray in liner and 5th wheel prep, also a King Ranch. While watching the tracking, it looks like it sat for 2 days after production until it shipped. I am including this information to give you my experience.
I cancelled my fifth wheel prep and liner, and the next day it was scheduled for production.
I’m just going to install the prep kit myself, just like I did to my current 2017. I already ordered the parts.
I had the dealer install my 5th wheel prep after the fact on my 2020 since it was a truck off the lot, and ended up spending several hundred more by the time we got all the wiring harness, etc sorted for the 7/12 pin connector. The $500 price when ordering is a deal by comparison, but understand the challenges with resource constraints these days when ordering.

No, 5th wheel prep is done on the line. It is a crossmember on the frame, and the bed holes are part of a different bed floor/side panel during bed assembly.
Delays have been just due to lack of parts, most likely the electrical parts, not the hard frame parts.
I skipped both options as there are parts available to mount rail type hitches and I use the bumper connector anyway. Parts are $300-400 and install does not look that hard for diy. Also, I think you need to buy an adapter to use the prep package, IIRC.
Bedliner type is TBD.
Not sure what all the fuss is about, lol
I have both options on my truck, I ordered 10/8, scheduled 11/21 for week of 1/17. I have now been rescheduled to the week of 1/31 so well see. I have read about shortages on both options, but was going to wait to remove anything as it seemed that trucks with these options were still being scheduled. I also had my dealer enter my order with a priority code of 10.
