ABS system question
Sorry for posting all these questions, but i thought i might just ask while im on here, and the help i get here is always spot on.
My question is about the 4 wheel abs pump. Does this pump have any electrical components like motherboards or PCB that can fail? With my van i have replaced EVERYTHING, all sensors, the tone ring in the back, the abs computer box... all of it, but still i get an abs warning light and sometimes the abs cuts in when the van is rolling. Last thing i didnt check was the actual pump, since that's so difificult to replace. im hoping there's an electrical component in there that burned out
regards. Willem

What prompted you to replace so many parts?
i bought it with a abs warning light on, and a bouncing odometer. I read the codes, but that didnt give me much information (no sensor signal from any of the sensors)
So i started replacing by trial and error. First speed sensor, then tone ring in the back (the one i pulled was fine though), then PSOM of the odometer (that fixed the bouncing odometer, but not the ABS). Then replaced the sensors in the front and the computer box under the car. and cleaned all connectors. Replacing the sensors did cause the abs light to not come on, but the ABS would kick in when i would slow down and almost come to a stop. Eventually i pulled the fuse, but cant help but be annoyed by the warning light that's on constantly.
The ABS unit or "pump" as you're calling it does indeed have a ECM (electronic control module) that directs it to interrupt braking action as dictated by the individual wheel sensors. From your description you seem to have issues with the wiring compromising the ABS system OR the ECM is beginning to fail. If you've already replaced the ECM with a new unit we're back to wiring issues somewhere in the whole circuit. I would carefully check wiring from the ABS ECM back to the PCM for obvious signs of damage or age related deterioration.
Having a full vehicle EVTM or book of wiring diagrams would almost be essential to do this properly. There are several listed on the USA's eBay site--here is one that's absolutely an insanely great price: 1994 EVTM
As a word of advise each time you seek information list your year, chassis and fuel type. There's nothing more frustrating trying to offer help and ask for this sort of information.
Good luck with this!
