Howdy all, Wasn't sure if this question should be posted here or at misc. under aftermarket stuff or electrical. I drive a 2022 F250 that was bought off the lot, not ordered. Whoever ordered this truck didn't order it with fog lights. The front bumper doesn't have the holes in it to mount them. Has anyone added fog lights to a truck that wasn't set up for them? I've stared at the front end for hours and don't see a good place to mount any. I keep thinking to put them in the air dam under the front bumper, but I don't think that's a good idea, it takes too much abuse. The other spot I look at is next to the tow hooks, but I'm afraid that's too far inboard, and not low enough. I want fog lights, not driving lights. I think that rules out light bars, but I'm not sure.
Certainly someone has had this issue before and the solution is simple and I just don't see it.
The truck is a 2022 F250 XL 4WD crew cab long bed, 6.7
Thanks, Mike

Reason: misspelled word

Call around local truck accessory places and look on Craigslist for new takeoff bumpers, all those ranchhands you see driving around used to be a chrome bumper.
That's how I ended up getting fog lights on my stx.
You'll then have a couple choices on how you wire them up. You can either go the full oem route and but the fog light harness that plugs into the unused plug on the driver side frame rail, a new light control switch for the dash and then make some forescan changes to get everything working. Second option is to wire the fogs to an upfitter or add a relay and switch to control the lights.
I ended up just wiring mine to an upfitter, and making my own harness with a couple of lamp pigtails from oreilly's.
For what it is worth, I end up turning my fogs off most of the time because with four H13 bulbs in the stock halogen lights, adding two more for a total of six bulbs running on low beam just gets me flashed constantly. Having the fogs on with the high beams is nice but when you dim and the fogs are still on, they are still too bright for many oncoming drivers. I would never spend the money to add them myself...
Howdy all, thanks for the replies. Looks like I have several options. The only reason I want (need) fog lights is because of how low and wide they light up what's in front of the truck. I spend most early mornings (in the dark) on jobsites. Often on building pads. It's not unusual to find that someone dug a hole or put some other obstacle in my way overnight. Being low and wide also helps me a lot when it's foggy! Not to mention that I have 62 year old eyes and have been nearsighted all my life!
chadstickpoindexter, Thanks! That was my first thought. I've been looking for a bumper with the holes, with or without the lights. None available for a 22. Nobody I've talked to about it can tell me for sure if the 17 to 21 bumpers will work. Most say that they don't think so. It seems that I won't have a problem finding one from a 17 to 21. I haven't even looked at how involved changing the bumper would be!
cficare, Thanks! I'll certainly look into that. It might be a lot easier to add a pair of those than to change the bumper and (mayhaps) then finding the lights. The 2012 F250 this truck replaced had the holes in the bumper, didn't have the lights. Took me two years to find the lights. I found em at LKQ. Boy oh boy did they work good! I sure miss lighting up the ground in front of me like they did!
Beast 17, Thanks for the link. It sure looks like I could aim something like those exactly where I what them to point. As long as they're fog lights and not driving lights. From what I've read, driving lights will blind oncoming traffic. I want to be able to use mine going down the road if I need to. Or if I forget to turn them off!
4B11TX, Thanks! I thought that might might be the perfect answer I was looking for, until I realized that my truck is registered in Colorado. Front license plate required. Looks like those are right where the front plate bracket is.
2020STX250 Thanks! That's what I've been doing. I'm working in Bentonville Arkansas now, and I've found a place about an hour away in Missouri that has a lot of bumpers, but none from a 22. If a 17 to 21 will work he said I could have it for about $450. He would have to see the bumper I'm taking off to give me a trade value. He didn't mention whether or not they had the lights in them. My 22 has the upfitter switches, that's how I planned on wiring whatever I end up installing.
RidgwaySD, Thanks! I don't know what year your truck is. When I added fog lights to my 2012 I never had a problem with oncoming traffic. I got flashed all the time with low beams on before I added the fogs because the truck sat so low in the back. After I added airbags (Firestone riderite) that problem went away!
Thanks again everyone for all the options. I'll bet I have fog lights in a week or two!
I would look for bumpers from 2020 and newer. There were significant changes from 17-19, 20 and newer would likely be a fit. Try some of the 4 wheel drive shops in your area, might find a take off. Odd your truck came with an XL or STX bumper.
