I forgot to ask if anyone uses or recommends any oil additives such as Hot Shot products. 2019 F250 6.6 with 24k on her and will probably be my last truck. I'm 55 she's paid for and I e got baby her. Thank you
I have never used oil additives since I started driving in the '70's. My only oil related failure was due to using Quaker State in a Chevy. I have put 450,000 miles on Ford gas trucks with no oil additives. None. So you see where I'm going. No additives for me.
At oil change time I will run a dose of SeaFoam or Gumout (same stuff, really) in a quarter tank of gas. Then change the oil. Never had a fuel system problem.
But never anything in oil, coolant, transmission or anywhere else.
I'm 65. Wrote a check for the truck in the sig. Plan on keeping it 20 years. At 85, I'll probably get something smaller. Or a taxi.
I never used oil additives in any of my vehicles. I just try to use good oil and change it regularly. Fuel additives I will use from time to time though.
Oil additives is like the Doterra for guys. It's 99.9% bs, but there's a huge "feel-good" market. The chances for a major failure being oil related is almost zero. If you have major issue, it will almost certainly be fuel, emissions, or turbo related. Could be all three. Additives won't do much here either.
I suppose you're referring to a 6.7... If so, just run a good synthetic oil that's approved by FOMOCO, Motorcraft filters and change it at the severe duty intervals. Oh, and tow something and run er hard from time to time.
Becase of the hydraulic unit injectors in the 6.0 powerstroke diesels using engine oil as a hydraulic fluid there were issues that could be benefited with engine oil additives.
Sence the engine oil in the 6.4 and the 6.7 engine oils only job Lubrication and cooling any of the oils on the Ford approved list will work eithout any extras.
