Motor Conversion

Hello all I’m new to the neighborhood, but have been a Ford kid since high school. I know you all can help me from time to time and I just hope I can return the favor. My latest mission is to replace the 4.9 liter in my ‘96’ F-150 with a V8; preferably a late model motor. With all the electronic sensors and such will I need to change out the whole wiring harness. Loved the 4.9 but need HP. Thanks! Kash

You can't use a later engine without using the later transmission, and that will require mods to the crossmember, driveshaft, & shift linkage/boot. If it's a 4WD, you're gonna have even more trouble.

It's not worth it. The '96 Lightning engine is powerful enough for anything but professional racing. The '95 4.9L in my truck is strong enough to get me all the speeding tickets I can afford, because I can set the cruise at 95 MPH.
