Ookfirst of all...I have done plenty of searches ..but i find it easier to just ask cause it uasually a diffrent kinda of question...... ok here i go....OK i have added a picture and i am curious to some thought(pictures) of good speaker locations while leaving the fuel tank stock...I thought I would get some big speakers and put them in door could, maybe evern make some thing to hold them..I would like some ideas perferablyy pictures of speakers locations with out spending alot of money....(not possible) But i have seen it done...any way just want some idea's...Thanks..
If you remove the door panal you'll see a fairly large hole in the door about where you are pointing at, maybe a little lower. I used some extra panals off a parts truck and mounted my 6x9's there. I think they sound great. Now, I'm not the type to rattle a house from a mile away but I still have good bass and a good quality sound using my 45watt per chanel Kenwood

well....I dont do much ratttling my self ....but thanks for your help i have seen the space your tallking bout andthats what i was thinking...what kinda speakers you using (Brand)? and do you use any other speakers? also another question what kind if you have a good one ...radio,?cdplayer.?..brand..? i have messed with lots of radios just cant decide on a cheaper way to go...thanks........
MudinMan, if I were putting more speakers in my 67-72 I would put a 6x9 in each corner next to the gas tank, in that slot where there's nothing there. You could put a 6x9 in each and just make straight bracket going from side to side. to support it.
If you're looking for good sound quality you gotta put them in some custom boxes (which will give you MUCH better bass throughout the range). I wouldn't put them in the door, I think it looks cheap-o.
I made my own door panels. I think the spot you are pointing to is congested behind the apne and will not allow for anything very dee. At lease it is on my 67. If memory serves me, it was also on the 68 I had back in my youth.
I don't think mine look cheap-o, but maybe that's because I made them and put a good bit of work in them. They are not yet complete, I will add some trim and possibly an armrest.
I also have a 10" sub behind the seat and the sound is great. This is powered by an amp behind the seat and a portable MP3 player that lays in the seat next to me. The stock AM radio and speaker are complete and independent.
I used Pioneer 6x9's in the door and they fit with no problems. I found a Kenwood am/fm/cassette with the 2 ***** that fit my dash opening. It is (I think) 45 watts per channel. The only speakers I have are the 2 in the doors.
I don't want my whole neighborhood to have to listen to my music like a lot of the young-uns do these days but I do enjoy quality sound. Too me mine sounds great. I've had other people comment on the quality of the sound also.
Mine is a good, clean installation that I think looks very nice. Not cheap. Of course everyone has their own opinions

Thanks. I'm quite impressed with the sound. Of course, the Inifinity seperates get some credit. But, I'm using the same Alpine Expert series 4 channel I've used in my last few vehicles, and I think it get's most of the credit. I've always said, good power overcomes bad acoustics, a bad source, poor speaker location and even bad speakers...nothing does more for a stereo than a good quality amp.
I've been upgrading stereos now for almost 20 years. I speak the truth. If you're about to unload $500 on an in-dash CD player. Put the money into an AMP and get the $149 special at Circuit City :-)
True that gtex. In my '94 f150 I spent $140 for a sony cd deck, $30 for 2 cheapo Jensen 5's in front stock location, and $60 for 2 rockford fosgate 6x9's in rear stock location, $190 MTX DVC T8000 10" sub and $350 on my 800w amp. It sure sounds good. I tell you what, I have yet to hear any bad sounds from those cheap Jensens up front. Besides a compititon setup, I'll take a backyard system (if knowing how to do it right) over any audio shop (best buy, circuit city etc..) install. I also hate these new complicated decks they have now a days! Digital this, pop up tilt screens, talking, and 90 little tiny bottons that make it complicated to know how to tune or EVEN TURN IT UP!!! No need to apologize for preaching
i have said this before on other speaker location questions so you could probably find this statment on a search but anyways...i bought a pair of 6x9's not having a clue where i would put them.(they were the first purchase i made for my truck) i ended up putting them flush with the bottom of my bench seat on either side of the tranny hump. i then notched the top of the plastic grills they came with and tightened the bottom two screws to clamp it to the seat. i'll get a pic of it up someday.
I did that exact location. You have to be willing to cut some metal to get them right where you have your circle drawn.
Here's what i did. I purchased a set of Pioneer 6x9
two way speakers. Then I removed the door panels and figured out that the speakers would end up sitting right next to the seat and aim the sound right into the side of the seat, if I used the existing factory hole in the door. Also the door panel isn't ridged enough to hold my speakers in my opinion. That was unacceptable. So, using the template from the box the speakers came in, I positoned it over the door in the area I desired and found with a little dremel wizardry I could get them to sit where I wanted.
I ended up trimming out right next to and tiny portions of the side of the door hinge box. This didn't weaken my door hinge area. but gives clearance for the frame on the back side of the speakers. Then came the most difficult part in my opinion, I had gotten an extra set of panels from the bone yard just for cutting up for the speakers, the matching of them to my customized hole was a time consuming project because I didn't want to mess them up. By doing many test postionings and cutting away small amounts with my dremel I got exactly what I wanted. One important note by having the speakers where I do the mounting screws go through both panel and into the door metal as well. Much better than just the panel, which would have been the case if I had mounted them in the existing factory hole. Then after I found that good speakers buzz the livin' crap out of those old hollow doors I installed Dynamat. Some on the out board side in the interior of the door and a bunch on the door in between the door and the panel, since most noise comes from panel buzzing.
Now I have one of the best sounding stereo installs I have ever done. I have done a few and had good sound and I don't consider myself a pro by any means. But I have much better seperation than I have had in other installs and the fact that the speakers point sound into the cab instead of the seat is a HUGE factor. The bass response is great with these big hollow doors of ours and with a good system you will be happy. I'm posting pics of one of my doors with the speaker installed to give you an idea of where mine are mounted. One day here soon I'll post some pics with the panels out as I have some door work coming up.

cool...thanks alot hawk...I am realy thinking about going with this....what kinda......Radio do you have..?and there no internal parts to mess with in door, just cut a hole after make a template and make sure wont hit ,and the slap the speakers in and BAM you have good sound...?Thanks alot
ok another question for yall are 4way pioneer 6x9's 350watt better than pioneer 6x9s 3way 240watt or pioneer 6x9's 4way 260watt...I am prety sure the 350watt and if so you think 50 bucks is good price for 350watts?(brand new)and 40 for the others?(brand new)...thanks???
Allrighty,
Some more preaching from a man who has built a few very nice stereos for cars (homes as well).
2 way speakers are all a car needs, aside from a subwoofer. Anything above 2 way speakers is either decoration or competition material. I guarantee you there are 2 way speakers that sound much better and are just as loud as those 4 ways. The 2 ways are likely to be more efficient.
I put the midrange speakers back in the door where no cutting was required using custom door panels. I have cut nothing original to my truck. By placing the tweeters closer to the hinge and higher up, I get good separation and a great sound.
Just some thoughts for you guys. I've been through all of the learning about stereos about 15 years ago.
I once again emphasize, that a good amp is the best place to spend your money.
