Yes, I’ve researched and have seen the previous threads on towing mirrors.
I have a 2020 F-150 Lariat and am looking to upgrade to the towing mirrors. My current stock mirrors (pictured) are POWER FOLDING, HEATED, FRONT TURN SIGNAL, LED SPOTLIGHTS (Puddle Lights) and BLIS (Blind Spot Information System).
Seems like there are some decent aftermarket towing mirror options out there such as Boost Auto/Tasca Parts, American Trucks, etc.
I’m thinking of purchasing the Ford tow mirrors directly through the Ford dealership and have them installed at the dealership. The biggest drawback for me on the towing mirrors from the dealer is that they are solid black mirrors. I was hoping they would have the chrome cover (I assume I can purchase the chrome cover as an aftermarket item).
But anyways, do you suggest purchasing the tow mirrors through the dealer and installed at the dealership OR purchase the aftermarket towing mirrors and install them myself? I’m just worried if I install the aftermarket mirrors myself that I won’t install them correctly, especially with the bells & whistles that are on my current, stock exterior mirrors.
I would NEVER pay what the dealer wants for them, Nor would I PAY to have them install them. 100% plug and play on your truck. it takes less than 10 min to do both. Dealer will wack you at least $100
I have heard that there are some aftermarket ones that simply will not hold up over time. No personal experience, however.
That said, if they are wired properly for your options they should absolutely plug and play. So even if you buy the OEM mirrors for your truck (which, by the way, they should ALSO be able to order them with the chrome backing), there's not really a need to have the dealer install them unless you are concerned about warranty claims.
Before making your purchase at your dealership, make sure they’ll install them for you because many if not most Ford dealers will not install OEM parts that weren’t originally installed on your actual vehicle / VIN from the factory.

i will share with you that when I got my 2017 lifted F150 SCEW , it had the optional towing mirrors that were power adjust, but not power fold.
this sucked because I parked in an apartment complex, and it didn’t feel safe to leave them out, so I had to manually fold them in and out ( both sides ) every time I got in or out .
I met a dealership “add on guy” by chance , and he replaced them with power fold puddle light mirrors for
$1k for both including labor ,
I have no idea where he got them for that price because I searched everywhere and couldn’t come close to that .
they have missed a lick and fold perfect every time for 3 years. The factory power fold mirrors would have cost me $3k just for the mirrors .
I am absolutely happy I had these put on , I use them several times every day when I park .
Boost Auto mirrors seen to be the best aftermarket option. I don't run them because I don't tow and can't stand the look of tow mirrors on half ton trucks. But there are a lot of people on the other F150 forum running Boost Auto tow mirrors.

Thats a new one to me. but I guess it would not hurt to ask
I use clamp on extensions that which slide and clamp with one thumb screw the stock ones on my 2018. they work great. I keep them by the door of my trailer.
I've done the clamp on kind, and they work okay. The factory tow mirrors are better, but the trade-off is they are larger, so you have more wind noise and width when you are not towing. Might have problems in urban areas, I've tapped mine on drive-throughs or parking garages.
I would never pay for them at a dealer. You will pay thousands. I got mine aftermarket at CarPart.com (to be clear I didn't pay for them, it was a sponsorship project.) They have held up great and don't vibrate or anything. My right one makes an extra noise when folding, but so does the one on my girlfriend's Explorer... I have no complaints. They've lasted 3 years. A direct swap is very easy. Even the upgrade swap I had to do on my xlt wasn't too bad.
I fold mine in every parking lot and in any drive thru. became a habit after i bought a Lariat with electric ones.
i agree , I had a guy put aftermarket power folding mirrors on my XLT and I fold them in each and every time I get out , I had a neighbor woman get in once and the window was down and she was going to push it out by hand , and I caught her in time , that would be bad ! I’ve never had to use them in the fully extended position, they really go out a long ways .
It doesn't hurt them to move them by hand. They are designed to break away. If moved by hand or by break away, just use the button to fold and unfold, the mechanism will catch and they will then function without issue.
