Mechanical fuel pump / is lobe up or down ?
Trying replace my pump, video is just after removal, looked like the lobe was down but not sure what it looks like when up
I bumped it over, did a test fit and had absolutely no tension or resistance, very loose,
If lobe was up would it feel like no tension or should there always be some sitting on the lobe?
I’ve done two of these this way with no issue. I’ve never looked in to see the lobe. If your lift pump is the original, compare it to the new one. The new one should have a sharper “hook” at the end of it, this I think helps to ensure your under the lobe as I don’t think it would bolt up if you were on top.
there was absolutely no resistance, just slid straight in and bolted up without any tension, I did have to disconnect the hard line from the fuel filter to be able to attach it at the pump, I had more leverage to push the hard line to make it fit up top, I gave it a couple of bumps to see if there was any terrible sounds and then cranked it up and ran it for 30 seconds to look for any obvious leaks, none, so I'm letting it sit overnight for the permatex to dry before i give it a good run,
I remember way back either on this forum, or maybe even Dieselstop, reading about a guy who bought a 7.3 from the original owner. He had to tear into it for something, and when he pulled the oil pan off there were three pump arms and pins sitting in the bottom. Somebody got it wrong three times, finally got it in right, and this guy drove around for years not knowing they were there. Crazy lol.
Anyways, glad your up and running!
