I have a 1991 ford f150 with a tilt steering column and it needs a new one so I found a 1991 non tilt steering column and was wondering if it would still work? Thank you
Probably if you dont have a big presence like me the non tilt is just fine where it sits. but some people need the room/angle esp if they move the seat around too but if you use the steering wheel to get into the truck 1) stop 2) stop 3) you will last longer with a non tilt
Yes you can use a straight fixed column instead of your factory tilt one, it's a direct bolt-in swap from what I recall doing to my own truck last year (man I miss driving that thing). Few things to consider:
- make sure the column you get has cruise capability if that matters to you (don't recall if you can give it those bits if needed).
- the turn signal switch in the non-tilt column is way more heavy-duty than the one in the tilt, so that's actually an upgrade there.
- if you got a stick-shift truck you can run whatever column you want. If you got an automatic then you need an automatic steering column.
