I have a 65 F250 4x4 with the NP 435 and 352 engine. I reinstalled the engine and transmission, but forgot to bolt up the driveline before attaching the transmission to the bell housing. Does this driveline expand and contract? I tried to remove the U bolts holding on the driveline to the transfer case, but I still cannot get it to fit back in there. Am I doing something wrong?

It looks similar to mine. The upper yolk end slides up and down that skinny section.
Ok, I have the driveline removed. Any tricks on getting it to contract and expand again? I tried a hammer and so far it hasn't moved much. I will not rotate it where they come together. I will mark it Sunday before I really heat and beat it.

I sprayed penetrating fluid into the joint where the sleeved end slides over the splined small shaft and left it on end overnight so it would drain down in. Liberal amount of penetrant.
Work it back & forth, it will come lose.

The grease in the splines is as hard as old cheese, try using a torch to heat up the grease, just enough heat to get it to slide apart.
Thanks for the tips. I told the family I would stay out of the garage today, but I will be back at it tomorrow afternoon for a few hours.
Lol, I got the same talk. But, I was vilified(sort of) because the stereo I bought my daughter last year for Christmas, I finished installing today. Backup camera, PITA for this old man, but we got r dun and they were impressed.
Now cocktails, some dinner and football. It was 83 today, crazy.
Happy holidays all.
