Programming spare key remote
So, the dealer got the recall done on my new 2021 and I picked it up this afternoon. Since they only supply two keys I normally buy an additional key fob and program it in case one gets damaged or lost. I did it with every Ford I've owned since 2000.
So I go to the owners manual and it states that I can purchase a new key from the dealer and they can program it. I would rather not if I don't have to. I saw a couple of sites on the internet that claims a new remote can be programmed by the owner.
So, has anyone programmed an additional remote to work with your trucks? If so what was the process? Any help appreciated.

If nothing has changed since 2015, as long as you have two working keys, you should be able to program another one.
The only reason one would need to go to the dealer to program another key is if the owner has only one working key.

I bought some remotes from remotesandkeys.com for a different vehicle brand MAZDA
Seems like a quality product.
Programming older fobs for doors is different than programming a key that works chipwise, ( in my opinion.) At least on older vehicles! )

This is keyless. This is a example of what I find on the market. If I have to pay a dealer to program it I might as well purchase it from them also. 2020 Ford F-150 F150 Smart Keyless Entry Remote 164-R8166 5929503 (carandtruckremotes.com)

Everything I see is I can program a couple of MYKEYS. There's nothing about programming admin keys. So, my plan is to purchase a couple of spare fobs, program them as MYKEYS with no restrictions, and store the admin keys away. That should get me around paying the dealer crazy fees to do it for me.

Just as a regular key. I would guess that you could change it to a my key after you program it to the truck if you wanted too.
Here is the video I followed; you need to have both original keys with you. It took me a time or two to get the timing correct, but it worked.
