A friend's 12 year old daughter is an aspiring musician and got a brand new drum set for Christmas! I had to ask mom, "Dear, what in the world were you thinking?????"

I once worked part time in a friends music store, could sell the hell outta starter guitar amps to parents with a "private rehearsal" feature. It was nothing more than a headphone jack to disable the speaker.
I've still got one of those amps, along with a steel guitar from the 60s and electric guitar from the 70s. Haven't tested the amp or played either guitar in years though. What trying to play either of them for more than a minute or two would do to these fingers that haven't held a musical instrument in decades is frightening!
Back in the 70s I built up a killer stereo system with a couple of 12" Utah Lansing speakers as the foundation. They were pricey for the time, but had a lot wider range than most 12" woofers. A couple of friends came over to jam one day. The other guitar player was having trouble with his Ampeg amp so I let him plug into my speakers. It completely blew away anything his Ampeg was capable of putting out. They lasted more than 40 years, too. I finally had to retire them about 5 years ago when time had take enough toll on them and one of them sounded blown.
An old neighbor convinced me that I needed a class A amplifier for my stereo. I was skeptical at first, but I've found few things in life that I wasn't dumb enough to spend money on at least once, so I tried it. That class A amp and Utah Lansing speakers were a remarkable combination. Playing vinyl or cassette, even the sound of the key throw could be heard in the background of most thing with a piano. Sound as good as being in the concert hall! (I miss it, too....)
