Harness Support

Well, look what showed up today. Only after, I had to pull the ignorant FedEx driver out of the mud after they drove off my driveway. AND they admitted to being a city slicker. SMH. This thing has only been on order for months now. Never expected it to arrive to tell you the truth. I have no clue who is making them. But here it is. Ordered from OEM Parts Source. Now to get the hardware to attach it property. B.

I ordered one from a local Autonation Ford house a few months ago, and it delivered within the week. Got it even before I found my new truck.

I used M8 hex caps with captive flat washers and 13mm heads for fastening. Ace Hardware sells them in black in the automotive fasteners section. Had to run a tap through the sheet metal, but they're easier to deal with than body fasteners and they don't allow the harness support to sag.

I saw the cowls a few days ago on Amazon and ordered 2 pcs, supposedly Ford product. If the quality is good (they are on the way to my forwarder), I order a few more. Since the parts were in backorder, I had helped myself in the meantime with spare parts from the 3D printer.

I've been thinking about grinding those tabs off and making a pair of aluminum brackets that go farther across the shield to better support the weight of the harness.

I wonder if the aluminum would get so hot it would melt the plastic.

Then the heat would be melting the plastic now. Even if the plastic does not absorb heat as quickly, over a long drive it still will get as hot. There is about a 1/4" drop from how the aluminum would project out to here the overall shield is positioned. That would be taken up with spacers, so small spacers make out of something like Polyetherimide which would give a cooling flow gap. Just thinking about it.

Hartwig, are these the parts you made with your 3d printer? Thanks, B.

There was also someone else here in the USA that was printing and selling them reasonably.

I had never heard of polyetherimide. After reading it sounds like a modern version of phelolic, with a higher price tag. The temps don't get so high under the hood that you couldn't use something like delrin. Mcmaster probably has delrin spacers on the shelf.

Cardolite is another good insulator. We're going of the rails here. We don't have a temp after hard pull, and the harness tape wrap holds up, depending on the one the use.
