The difference between forums

Howdy all,

A few months ago I bought a well worn but original and unmolested 65 Fairlane. I love my truck, but I wanted a car for getting groceries. She, Ethel, was last registered in 2006 and is a simple family car: 289 with cruise-omatic and 2.90 gears, no radio or A/C. Just an honest family car from back in the day.

I joined the Fairlane Club of America as it seemed the best source of info on the car.

Boy, is that forum different. Here, people have appreciation for everything from show trucks down to lowly work trucks. Also, information (part numbers, mauals, and step by step diagnostics) is kept freely offered. I do NOT get the same vibe there; everything is either show cars or racing. Things there are kept close to the vest.

Honestly, I haven't felt the comradrery I've found here.

I guess what I am saying is Thank Y'all for being helpful and friendly.

This is indeed a great site for many, many things Ford vehicle related---it's technical sub-forums have greatly slowed down in content since I first joined here 10 years ago. I'm thankful for what I've learned and make an effort to pass that knowledge and gained experience along what I can. (I mostly visit the E-Series sections though, don't venture into the F-Series on purpose too often. )

Another vehicle related site I visit is almost like a hippy love-in despite it dealing with any brand of van---"run what cha brung....." is kinda their motto. They make big efforts to help anyone regardless how new or experienced they are, several frequent contributors having related outside businesses making them very helpful. I've spoken with a few, have been able to meet a few more in person and even shared my industry contacts benefiting them with access to parts they couldn't obtain elsewhere or at prices greatly reduced from what they might find "out there".

Some of that is alive here but seems to be much more present over there, IMHO anyway. That doesn't mean I won't leave here---still a great site!

There are a couple cummins forums I use and cringe when I go there. If I log in I am desperate to find something.
