Who built a true 4x4 vehicle? Stock, no limited slip, both wheels a turnin axle? One thing im going to do in this life is build a true 4 wheel drive. I know thats what lockers are for, and there handier for on/off. As you would probably guess this wouldn't be a "street" vehicle. thanks -myers
I built a 4X jeep. It had a 1 ton military D60 front, 5:13, lock right, 35 spline inner and outer axles. The rear was a 14 bolt, yukon axles, 5:13, detriot.
i am probly way off but i know that the early internationals were pretty much a tank i dont know if they were a "true 4wheel drive" but they were pretty unstopable. like early to mid 60's maybe even late 50's. i probly didnt help any but hey it happens

I saw a one ton 4x4 International truck, it was a 65 or 66. That was a bad unit...nearly unstoppable. The engines were lacking in the horsepower department though.
Finding a IH 1/2 4x4 truck bout like finding a needle in a hay stack. Finding a 3/4 or 1 ton IH 4x4 truck probably have better luck finding that pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I pasted a 6? model 1/2 ton 4x4 truck on the side of the road for sale the other day. The body was slick as glass with new paint and the underside looked to be powered coated. with it looking like that I didn't even stop to look at the price cause I know it's well out of my price range. Theres not alot of aftermarket mods for the IH, But for a box stock motor and the CID they had all the hump needed for a truck. If ya just want more low end find a old IH gas school bus (everywhere fairly cheap) pop the 345-V8 that was found in most IH trucks, drop the big 392-V8 from the bus and ya good to go. They are a direct swap in. I love my Fords, but I keep my eyes peeled in the tall grass to get my hands on a old IH 4x4 trucks. mainly so I can pull off in the trails I play on in something not seen around every corner
What was the weight rating of a scoutII? My dad had a scout II that was fully locking front and rear, had a hand throttle, a twin-sticked t-case, and a granny 4 speed from the factory all behind an AMC rambler 6 cylinder. He drove that thing off an embankment and landed it nose first in mud up to the middle of the doors. Had to climb out the rear hatch, dig the front hubs out to lock them in, kicked it in 4 lo super low, and the truck backed itself basically vertically up out of the mud, landed it on all 4 wheels, and pulled back up the embankment onto the road. I want you to find ANYTHING else out there that'll do tha kinda stuff. I swear the frame on that thing was 5/16 steel.
Besides IH I can't think of anyone that made/makes a true 4 wheel drive. there are alot of three-wheels out there, but as for real 4x's, they are few and far between
Where all International Harvester trucks 4 wheel drive? Ive found 2 online, however neither do I know if there 4 wheel, I can't see the front axle in the pics to tell or not. Second I know this is off topic but are these worth anything to play with? Anyone know of anything that can be used with these? (Lift, etc?) thanks if I can't get these (I can't there both out of state I like to dream though) So if I can't get my ford I want, i'll start playing with these........ thanks for all the help gentleman. -myers
No they weren't. I've got a 78 scout II , which is 4x4 and (2) 2wd 1970 pickups. A half ton and a heavy half. They are very, very well built trucks with some really exceptional features on them. For instance the heavy half has (2) additional motor mounts on the front of the block, just below the crank that bolt to each side of the frame. Can you say "Heavy Duty"? There are lots of sites online. Just do a search for IHC, Cornbinders, International Scouts, etc. One of my favourites is "oldihc trucks".
The "real" Dodge Power Wagon, pre-1969, military looking, but also sold to the general public. This is not the 4x4 regular pickup that they sold later with the same name.
