All of the sudden, my two brand new key fobs won't activate the door locks (lock/unlock) unless you are standing right next to the DRIVER's door, and in the perfect spot. It's like the antenna on the truck quit working. Find the perfect spot and angle..and bam.
I've been searching quite a bit on this, and everything is always about the actuators not functioning because of the relays in the GEM/VSM module. Mine work just fine. They are very strong and crisp on both the lock and unlock functionality when you hit the door button. So I don't believe the relays are the issue per all the research I've found.
Is the "receiver antenna" for the keyless entry also on the GEM/VSM module? Or is there another module responsible for that?
I've been on google, youtube, and searched through a crazy number of threads on here, and again...it's always about the relays failing. I did read that Ford had stopped building the modules, due to age. Pretty shameful since the trucks are still so popular. But expected at the same time.
I will give that a shot. They didn't come with batteries, so I had to buy them. Not to say that I couldn't have gotten some old batteries off the shelf as well.
I don't know what year your truck is but..........my 2000 started doing this, probably a year or so back, I replaced the batteries, reprogrammed the fobs etc. Sometimes the fob would work normally for a few weeks but eventually they stopped working altogether. I ended up having an aftermarket remote locking module fitted.
