Gasser fuel additives

I have been watching some videos on youtube about fuel additives for keeping everything clean inside. Are they worth it? Do they work? Are they recommended? What brand?

7.3 gasser F350

If you think they work and it helps you sleep at night, then by all means. They won't hurt anything.

If you use the truck daily or several times a week I wouldn’t bother. This isn’t a diesel we’re talkin bout here. 😂

Read a good article regarding additives and where you buy your gas. Bottom line: instead of paying for additives, purchase from Top Tier gas stations....BP, Citgo, Exxon, Marathon....do a search for Top Tier gas retailers. They have the additive/detergent in their gas.

Redline Fuel System treatment is a very good option. I don’t use it often but it’s a strong cleaner.

Since 1995 I have put a total 485,000 miles on 2 Ford gasser trucks, a Ranger (275 K) and an F-150 (210 K) and never had a fuel system failure. never took a head off, no valve issues, no major engine failures besides water pumps and alternators.

Before each oil change I would run some Seafoam (or the Gumout or SuperTech equivalent, it's the same stuff, really) in a 1/4 tank of gas. Then change the oil. I have never continually run an additive such as an octane booster. Got long life out of my engines. Now I may have wasted my money but it wasn't a lot of money and it sure didn't hurt anything.

Over the past 15 years of so, I, periodically run Lucas and sometimes I think it has made a difference. I think it helps keep carbon from building up on throttle body and associated parts. As has been said before, it makes me feel better.

I run a couple of bottle of Lucas through the 4 barrel carbed boat every summer but that's about it. I've never bothered with it in these gasser trucks.
I did use cetane booster while the truck was in use for the season and an anti algae additive while the truck was stored for the winter in a 1997 F Super Duty 7.3 diesel bucket truck that I had. It always took right off in spring so I guess it worked.

I've never run additives/ treatment through the gas trucks I've owned but they rack up miles fairly fast so the gas doesn't sit in the tank long.

Now my small engines (chainsaws, side x side, generator) that get refilled from a 5 gallon can I always add Star Tron fuel treatment.

There is no logical reason to use an additive. Gasoline is already full of detergents. You will gain nothing.

I ran a bottle of Lucas in my '04 F350 with a 6.0 diesel on a cross country trip. That increased my mileage by 120 miles a tank. I was amazed. Years later, I traded that truck for a 2010 F150 with a 5.4. Had to drive across country again so I added a quart of Lucas in the tank in the beginning. I gained maybe 25 miles a tank on that trip. One thing I do know is, I will NEVER put that E85 crap in any vehicle I own again. I have tried a couple other additives in the past to different trucks and to be honest, it's all a waste money. Driving habits are what really affects your mileage.
I read an article years ago about a guy that did a 3 year experiment on like 5 different additives on E85, E10, and pure gasoline. After it was all said and done, pure gas by itself works best and burn it as fast as you can. Gas age is important, so if you don't drive very far or often don't fill it up. The great thing is, the engines of today can handle pretty much any kind of gasoline just fine. As stated above, just use a quality gas station.

I try to get gas at Costco when possible. Cheaper than most and top tier to boot. Otherwise I look for top tier stations as much as possible.

From the Ford manuel:
Do not use:
• Diesel fuel.
• Fuels containing kerosene or paraffin.
• Fuel containing more than 15% ethanol
or E85 fuel.
• Fuels containing methanol.
• Fuels containing metallic-based
additives, including manganese-based
compounds.
• Fuels containing the octane booster
additive, methylcyclopentadienyl
manganese tricarbonyl (MMT).
• Leaded fuel, using leaded fuel is
prohibited by law.
The use of fuels with metallic compounds
such as methylcyclopentadienyl
manganese tricarbonyl (commonly known
as MMT), which is a manganese-based
fuel additive, will impair engine
performance and affect the emission
control system.
