I have a new one wire electronic distributor that has a vacuum canister that can be adjusted. I want to make sure it is set right before I install it.
First off what size hex wrench fits the adjustment screw? To set the unit do you close it all the way then open it an amount or do you open it all the way then then set it?
I am running a stock 1971 76cc head and 18" vacuum at idle.
What is the proper setting for a stock 300 4.9L with headers, full dual exhaust & electronic distributor?
Christmas - Thanks, so you should be all in at what ever your idle vacuum is? As mine is 18" I would set my canister with a vacuum pump to be full in at 18". Is this correct?
Too many variables to just set it and go. Maybe one of the 6 cyl guys will pipe in and give you a max recommended total advance for your motor. Are you running manifold vac or timed vac? you will want to tune it with max recommended advance - mech + vac - in your shop at 3K rpm or so. Then test drive on the road and adjust from there to the brink of spark knock at highway cruise with light throttle acceleration.
In my limited experience, never had one right at "all in" - usually way too much advance - but all distributors and motors are different.
