I have an F350 on order that has been built and shipped. However, every time I try to add my VIN in FordPass, I keep getting an error message saying that the FordPass app is not responding. I’ve been trying ever since the VIN was issued, but no luck. Has anybody else had problems with this?
I was getting the same thing, mine shipped on the 8th and arrived in Buffalo when I tried it again and it started working. Doesn’t give any location or seem to do anything anyway. It says you have to activate it on the touchscreen of the truck for FordPass to start working.
Just purchased a Ranger for the wife couldn't added it to my Ford Pass until we were in it. Wouldn't make sense for Ford to let you added it till it was in your possession as you could unlock it and start it.

This is what I would think. Doesn't make sense to be able to activate anything on a truck you don't technically own yet. What if someone decided they didn't like or want the ordered truck and it was put out on the dealer's lot for stock and someone else bought it?
I wouldn't sweat it until the truck is here and you are sitting in it. Saying that though, I successfully added my VIN to the FP app when I was first emailed the VIN number, well before the truck was even built. Of course I couldn't do anything though... Long story short, I ended up removing the vehicle from the app about the time the truck was built, but then couldn't add it back. The Ford Pass folks didn't really have an answer but to just wait until I was sitting in it. As it turned out, about a week later the app just randomly took the VIN again and the Activate Now button appeared, but of course I could still do nothing with it... once the truck arrived activating it was one of the first things I did.

Per my salesman's instructions I loaded Ford Pass on my phone and stopped with that. Once the truck was mine he set up Ford Pass in the truck for me. Took under a minute. About like setting up a Bluetooth device. By the time we got the truck home I could start it and do all the other tricks. Just be patient. (I know, new truck fever)
