lol well i think the wires are on their third revision so maybe third times a charm. but for the people with older versions it must not be very pleasing to has this in the back of your mind. im strill trying to figure out how plug wires is even a topic in 2021. that stuff was ironed out decades ago i thought. then again we all thought axle housings were ironed out many decades ago as well
Mechanically with the 7.3L I've had no issues in over 10k miles and a year of ownership. I do not like the transmission that it is mated to, however.
-I experience the issue with the truck falling on it's face when trying to accelerate quite often. Quite seriously, I cannot believe there hasn't been some kind of recall for this up to this point. I've had drive-by-wire vehicles prior to this one and none of them had this issue.
-I made a post about it awhile ago trying to gauge whether other people are experiencing the same issue, but my truck lurches violently when I shift from park to drive. If you don't absolutely stand on the brake pedal, the truck will absolutely move forward. I have already had the dealer look at it and was assured that "this is normal". Bull.
-I also have issue with the way the truck behaves at low speed, for instance when you're in a line coming up to a stop sign or moving around a parking lot. The truck shifts erratically from 1 to 2 or 3 and back to 1 and every time it shift UP it lurches hard, and then when it shifts down it feels like it engine brakes just as hard. I have already had to warn people that have used my truck about it so they don't accidentally rear end somebody when it lurches like that.
Aside from having the dealer look at it, and trying to get the truck to "relearn" several times, I have also installed a tune from 5 Star in hopes that this would alleviate some of the issue. I don't seem to get the "dead pedal" feeling as often, but it is still at least a weekly occurrence. It didn't help any other issues. unfortunately.
I have the same issue with with my 2020. At times when making a turn at low speed you hit the gas and it's like a dead pedal
I also have horrible MPG, I drove locally today and checked the lie o meter and I getting 8.9 mpg unloaded only had a Christmas tree in the bed. On the highway I'm only getting 11 at best.
Didn't want to go to the dealer but something isn't right. On two of the rims the coating on the black wheels is peeling off and Ford says they will warranty only one of them. They don't give a shix!
F350 crew cab 7.3 4.30 xl 8 ft bed. I try to read through and give back to this forum. I stay very busy so don’t get on here much. But I had a lot of advice from others here that helped me deciding. I currently have 15k on my truck. Have had no issues with the truck. I farm cattle and hay. I do not baby the truck it works every day. Checking cows fences. Hauling hay, towing tractor and farm equipment. I don’t abuse it either. I just drive it wash it off once in a while at the DIY wash place. First new truck I have ever owned. First superduty. I do have a 1978 f350 manual 4 speed. First automatic transmission except a toyota tacoma. I didn’t drive it much wife drove it and son for college it is a 2001 with 400k. Now I have to say this truck has done everything I have asked of it. I do land surveying part time now and use my truck when my friend needs help. On the hwy set cruise usually at 77 and 70 depending on speed limit. I get 15 mpg. Loaded on hwy towing 19 to 20k trailer and tractor etc. 7 to 8 mpg. In and around back roads on and off farm it gets about 11 to 13.5. When I do feel like a teenager again once in a while and I am in a safe zone I get in to her a bit. She will purr and well mpg goes down. The tranny when cold is a bit clunky up shifting and down shifting first thing in the morning on a cold start. But I have nothing to compare to as manual transmission is what I have always driven. If I crank it and let it warm up while I get my coffee etc. its just fine. I have had 2 issues.1. The radio screen went black once. Its the small screen on mine. 2. That little rubber bumper where the tailgate closes broke off. Not Fords fault lol. My 10 year old daughter was easing me through the field with a bunch of small square bales and i was tossing them for cows to eat. She claims her foot slipped and hit the gas as she through me and several bales to the ground. What really happened as she finally came clean was she couldn’t resist the power and forgot I was back there. Its not a powerstroke turbo diesel. But she has plenty of torque. Lol. I don’t know how reliable and what all will happen in the future. But for a gas engine and 4.30 rear and barely hitting 2k rpms going down interstate its very impressive. When I hook to my 25’+ gooseneck trailer and have tractor loader and disc mower on it and never have to get into it and she pulls that 19k plus with ease up and down hills and through backroads and start and stop crossing hwy. i have had no complaints at all. Except to much power for my 10 year old daughter. I do let her have a little fun on the farm once in a while. I hope this helps. Lots of great people on here with advice better than I can give.
I've had my 2020 reg cab 13 months put over 23k mi with a few thousand towing 7-18k and have had no troubles. I will say i have some gripes that have already been mentioned, like dead pedal while making a turn.. even with 5 star tunes. Its had the 4th gear deceleration whine since new as well as the low speed clunky feel and what I call gear selection confusion. It has cranked then died a few times when cold out but always restarts without issue, havent been particularly worried about that honestly. All in all it's been great, it runs really well for a gas truck and has never been to the shop or thrown a code, completely dry underneath as it should be...
You clearly have no experience with 4.30's . . . . .
3.55’s or 4.30’s it’s all about what you’re going to use the truck for IMO.
If you’re going to tow light and infrequently 3.55’s. If you’re going to tow heavy and often 4.30’s. If you want to run 35’s or larger 4.30’s. Or if you just want the 4.30’s for whatever reason get the 4.30’s.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both ratios.
For my use of this truck the 3.55’s is the best choice.
My last truck had 4.10’s.
If Ford offered the 3.73 locker with the 7.3 on the F-250 I would have chosen it.
My 2022 F-250 7.3L got 18.6 mpg on the same 100 mile drive at the same speed that my wife’s 2021 3.6L V6 GMC Canyon AT4 got 21.7 mpg with me driving. That’s pretty F’n amazing.
