55 front axle

I need information from knowledgeable people. I just swapped the front axle stock for stock, put in a 54 beam and now the wheels are centered in the fender well where before they were rear of center with the old axle. I thought I may have reversed the unit but the install was as what was removed. The lock pins for the king pins go in front to back the steering went on no adjustment made everything text book but centered wheels. Did all 53-56 have rear spaced front wheels. No other changes made from the original install just pull and install the 54 axle reinstall the king pins and knuckles.

I was under the impression that 53-54-55 at least had the wheels more to the rear. When I did my axle I used centering springs from mid fifty. I have since taken it out and went independent also centered.Does everything fit tight and snug ? Spring to axle. I also used 4 degree shims to help steering with the power box. Also how does the pittman arm fit up? Pictures before and after would help as more guys will be coming along shortly.

artscott61, Not a change was done to anything, all went in as it came out. Just put in a 54 beam, and now the wheels are centered. would it be possible to put it in reverse, I know it might be done but even that shouldn't move it that far forward. In normal stock do the lock pins go in from the front, nut on the back, correct. I marked the old unit front and the bolts went in from the front so back in the same way. I also read the related topic items and the retainer pins do go front to back so it's in correctly. now to figure why it looks centered but thanks for your direction.

"Did all 53-55 trucks have rear spaced wheels?"

Yes. This enabled them to have a smaller tighter turning radius then earlier Ford trucks and the competition.
