300 EFI to 460 Carb (fuel system & wiring?)
Hello,
A friend of mine wants me to transplant a 460 4-spd from my parts truck into his lifted 89 F-150 4x4 with the 300 & 5-spd. I have all the parts for the mechanical part of the swap, but have questions on the fuel system and wiring for the Duraspark 2 iginition.
Fuel system
Can I just unplug the electric fuel pumps in the tank and use the mechanical pump on the tank? Will there be too much restriction in the electric pumps? Will the tank switch still work correctly?
Electrical:
I think some of the 87-89 trucks had a carbed 460 option. Is there any way for the Duraspark to plug into the harness once the computer for the efi is removed? Do I need to splice in the harness wire by wire for the gauges also?
Thanks for your time and responses.
We are going to try and do this swap this weekend.

The fuel system;
Normally I wouls say just run a return style regulator and run the in tank pumps BUT.....that 460 needs a little more than they can offer. You can try to pull through them but I think you do need to pull the pumps. The tank switch should work fine.
Electrical;
This is where the work begins.
You will need to find which wire is hot with the key from the harness because the connector will not work with the Duraspark and rewire as necessary. Yes I believe you will need to rewire for the guages as well.

Moneypit,
thanks for your reply. I have a spare front tank with a carb sending unit to use for right now until we get to the back tank. The wireing should not be too bad since the duraspark has so few wires. The swap may be delayed now thanks to the cold weather and the owners lack of funds.
Thanks again, and I will up date how it worked when we get done with it.
