When I was getting new tires around 80,000 miles I asked if I could walk out and see how much brake I had left and my friend asked me how many miles were on them and when I told him he laughed and said, "don't worry about it, they'll never wear out". We both laughed.
I didn't know he was serious.
I replaced the rear main this morning and I feal pretty good about it.
It ran until it was warn and I was getting pretty excited.
Revved it up a few times and here came the oil.
Grabbed the black light and its literally pour out of the front and rear of the intake.
I've been sicker than a dog. Was thinking possible covid, bronchitis or something else.
Had to rearrange my work schedule. No substitute drivers so the other driver and I work it out between us.
Took the weekend off. This was how I wanted to spend it but I'm grateful that I get the shop for a few days.
Glad that I have another new set of intake gaskets too.
Pretty pathetic that the self confidence level is soo high that I order doubles.

I'm the problem.
I didn't run nearly a big enough bead of silicone last time.
And I was using blue not black.
I cleaned the surfaces with parts cleaner and again with starting fluid.
Ran just a sheet of black to "glue" the cork gaskets in place.
(the sealer looks blue/green from the dye and camera flash)
Its setting up now.
I will run a bigger bead of black across the new gaskets and set the manifold.
So far today I feel pretty good on what I found wrong and how things are going back together.

Oh, I see. IF (a big if) it doesn't work this time, I'l just say that I have better luck with 3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive with cork gaskets, and the RTV with rubber molded seals ... but then my oil pan does have cork used with RTV so it's not iron clad. The RTV is an easier cleaning up deal, the 3M stuff can be stuck but good.
I once used RTV to install valve cover gaskets, but each time (twice) the cork just squeezed out. One time, enough oil run out to catch fire, but I was close to home so I headed for the house and water hose in hand before opening the hood. Next time, I did the 3M, let it skin, and then stuck them. It worked.
None of that is a criticism, I do hope it stays fixed this time.

Well you have changed it enough times, that I would start suspecting a fitment issue of some sort. Maybe a damaged face/seal area or component. And not the mechanic replacing the seals. What's the prior to install history on the motor? Had you ran it before in a different vehicle?

Just a spot about the size of a quarter, slow minor drip but still unacceptable, but I will live with it for the time being.
It actually looks like the rear of the oil pan, I did not replace the gasket this time.
Its very drivable for now, at least I can move on to other things it needs done that have been on my list for a long time.
I need a rest before I have to go back to work on Tuesday.
I'm beat and there's soo much I want done, like the interior.
I made some good progress today and I'm happy about that.
Thanks to everyone, again.
If it doesn't snow tonight I'll put it back in the shop and spend a little more time looking for the leak.
Its leaking less now than it has in a looooong time.

Good morning.
I'm pretty excited to drive the old truck into town this morning.
I'm 69 years old and still get excited over a few on my toys.
And Lurch is one of them.
One of my daughters named it, and yes - its an it.
"Its" not a girl or a boy, its an it.
No gender. Not even gender neutral.
I have no idea how people can call their Highboy "my girl"??
Feeling pretty grateful that I never grew up.
