Thanx for the reply. I initially purchased a 4 ohm dual coil Kicker sub from Fry's Electronics. When I discovered I couldn't wire the sub to present a 4 ohm load to the amplifier (could only wire it to present either 2 ohm or 4 ohm load), I returned the sub and purchased a single coil 4 ohm Kicker, which I installed this afternoon (the Kicker Comp 8" 4 ohm sub; it's SKU# is 03C84). The single coil 4 ohm Kicker presents a 4 ohm load to the amplifier. The OEM speaker in the early Expeditions is a 4 ohm subwoofer. If you take a multimeter and set it to Ohms so you can measure ohms, then put one lead to one terminal on the OEM sub and the other lead on the other terminal, you'll get a 3.4 ohm to 3.6 ohm reading, indicating the OEM speaker is a 4 ohm speaker. The Kicker sub fits into the OEM cabinet pretty much perfectly, but the screw holes don't line up correctly. I had to spend close to 2 hrs drilling new holes and cutting the rubber gromet surrounding outside edge of sub so I could srew it into place. The sub appears to be working fine.
