Ok, ready.
The new transmissions have no belts. They use oil pressure forced through valves in order to shift the gears. Similar to how a shock works, with the fluid squeezing through the valves.
On stock auto trans, they valve your tranny so that it slips when it shifts. This is to provide a nice comfortable shift so that the old people don't complain. This is also not good for your tranny. The more slippage, the quicker the clutches wear out.
The shift kit replaces the valves with valves that have smaller holes. The kit comes with several different sizes so you can choose how tight and fast your tranny shifts and how little slippage you want.
The less slippage, the quicker the shift and the better for your tranny.
My brothers has his set up for the quickest shifts, and his dodge snaps your head back every time it shifts. The shift, even under full throttle with nitrous, happens so fast that no human being in the world can shift a manual trans as fast. This is, again, why almost ALL pro's race with auto's and not manuals. An auto with a shift kit can shift 150 times faster than a manual, even with the best driver at the wheel.
and, of course, every time you shift (take your foot off the gas to disengage the clutch) you lose valuable time, regardless of how fast of a shifter you think you are.
The shift kit is going to give me whiplass at every shift and shave 2 tenths off my time...guarantee'd.
