Just wondering if anybody has a tow service that they like. AAA is OK, although I hardly use them these days. They are cheaping up and I wondered if there were any good alternates.

Thanks,

I've used my AAA membership just once in two years having it---my half-assed neighbor wanted ME to help him change a tire on the freeway on afternoon---oh hell NO! I drove to him, called AAA and waited for them to arrive. I was impressed the operator was smart enough to check air pressure in the spare--of course it was quite low---had the whole job done in about 10 minutes. I pay like $108 a year for my membership, about the same for the girlfriend and my lesbian couple buddies who are automotive-clueless---they're used their memberships a few times---lock outs etc.
For the money I don't see a better stand-alone roadside service. Some auto insurance companies have a similar service available as an enhanced option you can choose when signing up or renewing your policy--I'd check into that possibility. I wonder if that doesn't figure into them being cheaper these days?
AAA does have different levels of coverage which would naturally affect your dues or cost.
I really don't see---or really look either---for anything different as I'm happy with what AAA offers currently, price is fair for that extra bit of potential help when needed.
My auto insurance includes roadside assistance. The add-on is a lot less than the cost of a AAA membership and has approximately the same functionality.
That said, I've actually used it once in 50 years of driving, and that was to change the tire on my boat trailer. The head on the aluminum, phillips-head screw that holds the cover plate in place was stripped out and I didn't have enough tools with me to carve out a deeper slot.
