I have read about my issue and don't have a target solution yet.
Today my front tank was just below 1/4. I started adding fuel and after less than a minute it started to purge. I stopped it and resumed filling without incident. It happened once before awhile ago.
The tank only registered 1/4 tank when I left and after 5 miles it went to the proper level for the fuel I had added. This has been happening the last few times I have added fuel to the front tank. I and several here on the forum attributed this to a sticking float. I don't think this is associated with the purging, but I don't know.
Any idea of what might be causing the purging? Gas cap is a fairly recent Motorcraft. Rear tank works as it should. Thank you in advance.
Honestly, I don't have a good read on what the issue might be. I had some similar issues with the rear tank on my '92 Due to a pinched off vapor line where a PO had crushed the bed down on top of the soft line. Maybe check that you don't have an obstructed vent? I will say, and I'm not being paid to say this, I run a bottle of Chevron Techron additive through my OBS trucks about every third or fourth tank, just to keep the sending units happy. I don't know what Chevron puts in there, or if I'm just lucky, or if it's confirmation bias, could be anything, I'm neither a chemist, or petrochemical engineer, but I've had it both "bring back" senders from the dead, and keep them from weirdness.
Thank you. I will check it out. When I posted about the possible stuck float, I had mentioned I used some MMO and it started working. You replied you had success with it also. Think the Chevron might be better since the problem returned?

Its been my go to, when nothing else works. I've had better success with it, than with MMO. I generally choose the MMO when I've got a tank with rust issues, vs Techron.

There is a clip that secures my tank vent. It appears that after 30 years the hose may have gotten weak and given some at the clip. I readjusted the hose and put the clip in a new spot. Will see what happens when I add fuel again. I will try the Chevron if the float acts up again. Thanks for the suggestion.
