Another fuel question - front tank
Another fuel question - front tank
Today must be the day for fuel questions. I stopped by the station to quench the thirst of my 460 this morning. Rear tank was about 1/8th of a tank - front reads E. I figured I'd put fuel in the front - but the thing constantly kicks off and burps/gurgles/spits fuel back out. I finally gave up after getting about a gallon in it and filled the rear tank.
So, the question does the front tank have a filler line issue or something on the larger trucks. My 93 F150 never had this problem in the 11 yrs I had it. I then went to a F350 Powerstroke and the front tank on that one wouldn't fill easily. Now the F250 does it on the front tank. The rear tank takes the fuel perfectly.
Is this a Ford thing and I just need to put up with it?

Are you sure there is no fuel in the tank? The last time I filled my front tank, several months ago, it took a few gallons of fuel, so I filled the rear also and ran from it. My guage works in both tanks. This is when I found I had the crossflow problem and the rear tank overfilled the front, fuel was leaking out of the front through the vapor canister and I could not use the overfull front tank .... pump would not work till I removed 4 gallons of gas. You may have a similar problem but with the addition of a fuel gauge problem on the front tank. What year is your truck?
The truck is a '95. My '93 F150 had the recall on the crossflow problem and it was taken care of. I figured Ford had that problem resolved by '95. I may just switch it to the front tank and run it and see what happens.
I would do that .... I have seen a lot of folks on here talking about needing to change their fuel gauge senders ... so you may have a full tank. If it don't run you may have the problem I had with a full front tank. As long as I keep mine below 3/4 it works ... I will be changing the units soon ... my rear only uses 13 gallons of the 18 tank, so I have to check that one to. Guess I will be buying a few cases of beer and removing the bed with a few buddies.
