Valve Seals
I know that my seals are pretty well shot when I have a cold start (>40 degrees F) I tend to fog the yard! With 164,000 miles I assume it is getting close to the day that it needs done anyways. Can you use a vacuum pump to see how my "leaakage" there is, and how does that work. I have access to the pump, but what types of connectors will I need...do I just try it in all the spark holes (only on 1 side though) or is there a "special" place that it should be done in!
I have the haynes and chilton manuals, and to me they are not clear enough for me to be sure I won't be causing more harm then good!
Thanks guys preciate it
Do these tests to find out what the real problem is!
You will need to perform 2 "Compression" tests on your cylinders!
Get the screw-in type tester and take down the readings from both tests!
Proceed w/1st test!
NOW...
Before doing 2nd test, squirt a very little bit of oil in each cylinder before retesting (you are now checking to see if the rings are also bad!)
If you end up w/ higher comperession, it's the rings, if not, it's the valves!
ALWAYS BE SURE!
