Speedometer Calibration

I have a 1997 F250 4X4 PSD, automatic with a 3.55 LS gear. I've read several threads where you need to recalibrate the speedometer if you change tire size. What I am not clear of is, do you need to recalibrate the speedometer if you change differential gears. I read where the speed sensor is on the differential and I am changing my gears to 4.10. Will I need to recalibrate the speedometer?

Thanks

Here's the answer.

The speedometer sensor is in the rear end and the speedometer did not need to be reprogrammed. Speed was checked with GPS before and after gear ratio change.

That is correct there is a ring in the rearend that the sensor reads from. The only time that you need to recalibrate is when you change tire sizes. If you do change tire sizes you can easily recalibrate it yourself. It only takes a few minutes.

I changed mine the other day....... it is simple. Took 2 minutes. Just remember you can only change it 6 times.

Yeah that 6 time deal is a real bummer. I have wondered why Ford did it that way?
