65's were cable with the pedal bolted to the floor. In 66 they switched to a floating pedal, same cable. The floating pedal is a little more comfortable to use. The stock re-pop chineseium cables suck. Get a Lokar and use the Lokar or one of the aftermarket cable bracketts that bolts to the carb base..
But yeah, my '65 has the pedal attached to the floor with a cable as Crop Duster says.
It WAS gonna work perfectly with the original plan. Well, plans change!
The Holley Sniper EFI single barrel has a different throttle arrangement. So maybe my long time dream of using one of those foot shaped gas pedals with the toes will have to change too. But I haven't progressed far enough in my build to think about that yet. Soon tho
I do prefer the floating pedal.
Hey Mikey, my truck has mechanical linkage, pedal to carb. 1961 F100
I purchased cable's for the kick down and throttle. The kick down lever was missing and the room for a lever is almost non existent, so a cable will be the ticket. I figured maybe going cable with the throttle would be better too not so sure about that now. I may go hybrid with the throttle. Parts will be here on Monday. Then I will decide yes or no with that.
I would think converting your truck to a cable would be fairly easy. There's a firewall bulkhead fitting, or sometimes a self contained pedal and cable bracket assembly and then the other end attaches to a cable bracket that mounts to the motor in the general vicinity of the carb. Sometimes it'll mount on the intake manifold, and sometimes it's a plate that gets sandwiched between the carb and manifold.
All my 70's era Mopars that I had back in the day had a pretty simple and elegant pedal/throttle cable arrangement that would be pretty easy to adapt. The '65 is similar, except the pedal itself hinges at the floor. I have not seen the 66 and later F100 floating throttle pedal, but I would think that would be easy to adapt as well.
I have not looked at the Lokar stuff yet either. I will soon.
Now that you've piqued my interest, I've found other kits that include the cable and firewall bulkhead fitting. Check Amazon and Speedway Motors. I searched under "Throttle pedal and cable" and got a bunch of viable options.
I'll probably use something like one of those. I'll need a longer cable than what my truck came with.
At any rate, these types of kits seem to be a good way to go unless you go junkyard shopping. Personally, I'm gettin' too old for that.
I think you will have to most likely need to get one of these. Usually the kickdown cable only comes with the bracket to bolt it to one of these along with the throttle cable. Lokar SRK-4001 Lokar Throttle Cable Brackets | Summit Racing
The installation instructions can be had on Lokars web site. The knockoffs don't usually come with instructions. You may have to do a little redneck engineering where the cable bolts to the transmission because of differences in the different year C6's not a big deal but it may need tweaked.
