I'm embarassed, but a problem I had has reappeared. I thought the WD-40 cure had fixed my ringing driver's side door chime, but I was wrong. It's back again and I've sprayed enough WD-40 into my door lock to drown a whale. But all to no avail. I thought I had fixed the problem the first time, but apparently I jumped to the conclusion I had fixed the problem too quickly. No problem with the passenger's door, only the driver's side door. I have also used contact cleaner, but nothing seems to work. Oh yes, I have a 1995, 3 liter, 2wd Ranger. It doesn't chime long, but it does go on for about 15-30 seconds and of course I know it shouldn't go on at all. I have also removed and checked the ignition lock switch and the ground wire is firmly attached. Also after the initial chiming is finished, I can insert the key and find it only chimes when the key is in the ignition lock, so I think that switch is okay. Is there something obvious I'm overlooking? Any help will be much appreciated.
Try using white lithium grease spray, not WD-40, it doesn't dry out like WD-40 does. You can get a can of it at your local parts store for $2.00. It worked for my door switch.
I had to take the door off and reach in and remove the switch. I learned how to do it from another Ranger web site http://groups.msn.com/AllThingsRange...ngsranger.msnw which has a download on how to do it. The switch is a spring loaded ball bearing which gets gummed up. My solution was not to add more lube but to clean all the old lube allowing the ball bearing to retract and come out without sticking. It works fine now.
Thanks "liltruck" and "junction99". You both could be right in your solution, but I think I will remove the door panel and fix it once and for all as "liltruck" suggests and being a Ranger fan, I will also visit the other web site. I like all the information I can get about Rangers.
