I just ran my first coolant test on the Zilard, Nitrate is Ideal, Freeze point is - 34 but the Ph. is like 11 which according to the NAPA test chart is unsat big time. what do I add and how much. I have a pint of NAPA KOOL should I add that. or something else?
Thanks
CH
On most diesels you are not as concerned about Ph as you are on a gasser. The test strips that are recommended for a PSD using "green" coolant as opposed to "gold" coolant are Fleetguard 3-way coolant test strips part #CC2602A. They can be purchased at a IH dealer. They only test for freeze point, molybdate, nitrite. There is a chart on the package and where the molybdate value intersects the nitrite value is your SCA level. SCA is very important in preventing coolant cavitation in the PSD. The filter mentioned above will keep your SCA within specs and filter the coolant, but it will do nothing for Ph. If I remember correctly vinegar will lower the Ph but again it is not a issue on diesels, SCA is much more important.
