I have a 1991 F-150 extra cab 4X4 and the cab is leaning towards the passenger side. I took measurements and found that the bed is straight and the frame and suspension are O.K. I'm thinking it might be the cab bushings. Has anyone had a similar experience? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Chris ,
What do the bushings look like ? Are they cracked or distorted ? Trucks just by their design tend to flex more than a vehicle with a shorter frame or a sub frame and often its not unusual to find a truck on a level surface would show that if you measured it may be leaning or lower by an inch or so from one side to the other . No two springs are exactly the same . If the bushings look Ok and the springs are fine , Id say its pretty much normal .

The bushings appear to be o.k. But the cab is always leaning to the passenger side no matter where its parked. Also when driving I can see the bed sticking out past the cab on the drivers side in the side view mirror. I was going to get a new set of tires and an alignment done this weekend but since I noticed this I thought I'd check into first. Paul, you mentioned in your post about the coil spring. Would a weak spring only effect the cab or would the bed lean too? Thats how I ruled out the spring. How would i check if the spring is bad?
Thanks for the response.
Chris
The real test would be to put the truck up on 4 identical jack stands and then look at the truck from the front.
Every now and then I get that problem, but I have dual chamber shocks and sometimes I have to manually extend them to reset the chambers...Hit bumps to hard....
Chris ,
Joe has a good way to look at your truck . Your truck is 9 yrs old and springs do tend to settle and not be as tensile . Coil springs will crack , but I think if yours were you would have noticed some noise and weird handling characteristics . Have you always owned this truck ? If you notice the bed not flush with the cab its possible the truck has been hit in the back ? Sometimes wrecked vehicles dont always go back together like the original .
