Looking for used AIS kit.
So if anyone has replaced their AIS setup, and wants to sell it. Let me know.
I'm also gonna call some local scrapyards next week and see if they have any.
Thanks all.

$282 at Varsity Ford
299 at Oreillys if you have them around.
I'm hoping we can find a used one for cheap, but we may just go that route.
I ended up getting mine from either Amazon or Summit Racing. Both were about the same price ~$300. Good luck on your search. Your dad will like the new intake.
Right now it is at $276 from one of the sellers, other sellera are at $400+ as well. So look at the different sellers under the amazon listing. They fluctuate around, I had gotten a new one from Amazon for $230 back in June.

Using quality filters is in reality going to filter fine and flow plenty for a tuned truck with a stock or modified stock turbo...
Did I already say easer maintenance???

Have not really noticed any increased noise that I could tell.
The truck is all stock, except 4" exhaust & new bellow up pipes.

Taking another look at the photo that arto_wa supplied of his AIS installation... with the battery caps fully exposed and directly accessible...
And comparing the above photo with any given 6637 type installation in a 99-03, a random variety of which are are shown below...

... what we find is that the 6637 type of air filter installation in and of itself has no bearing on easing battery maintenance, which is impeded by a battery cover that requires the removal of both positive and negative battery leads first in order to remove the cover next in order to finally access the vent caps in order to check and maintain the battery in all the photos of 6637 installs above, EXCEPT for the photo of the AIS intalI, where there is no battery cover in the way.
Additional photos of various and random AIS installs bear this out, where no battery cover is included, required, nor necessary to re-utilize, with the AIS system...

As can be seen in each of the various AIS installs shown above, the battery is fully accessible, and the battery caps can be directly accessed and removed quickly for checking levels in each cell, measuring specific gravity with a hydrometer, and refilling with distilled water as needed, without removing any cables or battery cover.
UNLESS, one happens to encounter an AIS installation like mine shown in the photo below, where despite the OEM battery cover not being needed or a part of the AIS... I re-installed the old OEM cover over the battery anyway... because I don't bother with battery maintenance, and haven't fussed with checking or refilling water in batteries for more than a decade, and have no plans to. Ever. Since I don't give rat's amp what the electrolyte level in my batteries is, why should I even have to look at them?
However, my installation below is the exception, not the rule. In every other AIS install I have seen, there is no battery cover in the way of maintenance., which to my mind means that the 6637 can't be any easier than the AIS is as far as battery maintenance is concerned.
For anyone who believes in the importance of maintaining the electrolyte level in batteries (I don't, and couldn't be bothered with the hassle), then it is not recommended nor necessary to cover up the battery with the AIS, as I have done below:
I purchased Motorcraft AIS kit but have not installed it yet.
Today my grill is off and I was going to do ZOODAD mod.
But is it really necessary or beneficial with the Motorcraft AIS kit?
If so should I do the front mod as seen on this forum in the past?
Or the secret sideways Zoodad mod?
Thank you all as always!!
This goes directly behind the grill and is completely hidden protecting from water etc but also utilizes the high pressure zone to force feed some air.
If you decide to not install the AIS let me know. I know a guy looking for one.
edit: “Post New Thread” is at the top of the forum. Scroll all the way up if on a phone.
The body twist that occurs from each front tire traversing dissimilar planes will radiate through the radiator support, and too large of a hole in the vertical supporting rib could cause the fiber reinforced plastic structure to crack.
Ford likely found the right balance between opening up inhalation access while maintaining structural integrity in a dynamic on road / off road frame and body twist ditch environment.
