The C4 was a 3sp automatic trans built in the '60's. it's definitely not that. With the integrated belhousing and allegedly being from a '96 F series that would be the Mazda M5OD which is exactly what you want. But that trans was also used in the Ranger so you would want to check the belhousing bolt pattern.

Thanks for the information.
Was the Mazda M5od offered with different internal gear combinations or are all Mazda transmissions that came from a 6 cylinder Ford the same?
I wandered around and found this F2TA unit has a “electronic speed sensor” which I think is the speedometer drive or sending unit. I have a mechanical speedometer so this one wouldn’t work for me.
I believe the speedo drive modules are interchangable... just remove the electronic version and install the mechanical.
The transmission he posted a picture of I dont see where he could " just remove the electronic version and install the mechanical" do you?
On that transmission I think it takes its reading off a "tone ring" inside the rear axle sent to the computer and it uses it for speed & ABS.
There are a few of that transmission that dose use a mechanical speedo. I just dont remember what years use it.

That transmission is the m5od.
different years used the old speedometer cable, then changed to the tone ring in the rearend. All of them i know of had the hole machined into the tail shaft housing. You can see it in the OP picture. They installed a metal plug in the hole that can be removed. The main problem is there is not usually a speedomtere drive gear installed. That gear is reputed to be NLA. But i did find one online from a transmission/gear shop. I don't remember the shops name but it took alot of searching. And a few wrong gears.
If the transmission is good and the price is right i would get it if possible. Alot of them died a early death from lack of fluid,So you maybe able to find a bad one to get the parts you need.
if not already done upgrade the seals on the end of the shift rails
