CCV Box "Clogged?"

The CCV "oil separator" - thought I had the filter box, but don't - was clogged and leaking according to the dealer. The box was covered with seeping oil, and some dripped off the engine to the ground. Truck has 70,000 miles.

After checking with several dealers who all wanted to check it out, order the part, and keep the truck for 3 to 5 days (for a warranty repair), I called a local dealer who had one in stock and I replaced it myself. The rear bolt was the worst part of the job, but everything else was easy.

After removing the box, it didn't seem to be clogged at all, although it was leaking everywhere. There is only one small metal "valve" on one port, and another open port and a hose. The inner box is divided by a few chambers. Does anyone know how this thing works? I would like to have installed a delete kit, but local emissions....

Where was the oil coming out from? I've been interested to see the insides of the non serviceable CCV box, did you open it up?

Mishimoto has a ccv catch can kit that separates the oil out. It installs with the CCV filter in place.

It was covered in oil, hard to tell where it was coming from - there are no apparent cracks in the box. There is a Youtube video showing the internal baffles, but I plan to cut the top off mine. The plastic flex hose that connects to the "intake" was brittle and broke in half while removing it. The whole setup appears to be a little sketchy.

Forgive my lack of knowledge what is this ccv box? What engine does this pertain to? Just trying to learn as I’m just over 75k on my ‘17 6.2.

Crank Case Ventilation (CCV or CV) box. Pertains only to the 6.7. It just traps crankcase vapors. It is unto itself an oil catch can.

Every engine has some way of relieving crankcase pressure. On an emissions vehicle, the vent is directed into the intake so that the vent gases are burned. You’ll see a variety of devices in these vents that are there to collect oil mist. Some aftermarket devices are drained manually. OEM designs generally drain back to the engine. The box being discussed here has baffles to separate the oil from the vapor. There is another design that includes a filter, and that filter didn’t seem to last long—people have trouble with it often.

I'll have to search for that, I have only seen the videos showing the filter replacement on the serviceable version.
