What kind of hose to use? I used some good gates fi hose and I'm not happy with it.
Seemed like the consensus on the interwebs was to use good fuel line for it.
looks like its collapsing at idle so it isn't that good of a hose I guess.
When spraying carb cleaner around back of carb, it's obvious there is a leak in that area.
I'm hoping it's the hose and not the egr plate/spacer gasket at least.
when I bought the truck, the pcv wasn't connected to anything. So I don't have a hose to go off of and I left it alone.
Should I try some hydraulic hose or what?
I have had great luck with thick wall silicone hoses from frozenboost.com
they have a variety kit with lengths of 4,6,8,10mm id hoses. Very flexible, don't collapse. For high pressure turbos systems.
Actually I just yesterday cut a new piece to replace the rubber one on my PCV. The hose is at least 5 years old in my garage.... No cracks. No dry rot. Underated product.
The hose has to be rated for oil, gas is a different beast.
I got my PCV hose through auto zone justed asked for hose rated for PCV.
Been good for a few years now..

The EGR spacer plate does like to corrode and eat away between the manifold and the spacer.

there was some of that, cleaned it up best I could and hoped it was far enough back from the edge the gasket would still seal..
Not that there is a lot of meat on the back side anyway. Appears I'm going have to deal with it. I want to blame the hose it's the easier out heh.
Can I cheat and ask what ppl have done to address this? New egr spacer plate? eliminate it ?
I'm not against the egr, had no intentions of deleting it. Mine was still working well.
Fuzzface, The hose I am using is rated for biodiesel, 30r hose should be ok for oil. But you got me to look up.
What they gave me and the vacuum rating on it is only rated for 24", the truck is only pulling around 17 at idle. It's enough to see the sides starting to pinch in.
You remember the brand they gave you? I looked on their site and saw continental bulk hose and molded hose.

Yep, just ask the person at the auto parts for it.
I understand, that's why I try to use my local NAPA for most things. The same guy's always seem to be there when I walk in. I have noticed at the other chain stores it's always someone different.

agree with that. Napa let me down last time I went there. Ordered the egr gasket, told me it would be there later in day.
the guy entered it wrong and set it for next day.
wasnt happy to make the drive for nothing.
never did change the gasket, they never called so I left it alone. Looks like I'm going need that gasket after all if I stay with the egr.
it's always something...
Updated: for giggles I just stopped into napa, they didn't have anything so they claimed unless I drive 30 miles round trip

It was bulk hose and never got the name from them.
I did have them recheck that it was rated for the PCV system.
IIRC the box or hose on the bulk saus it was good for PCV.
I don't know what my 300 six pulls for vacuum at idle as I have never put a gauge to it but I don't remember the hose getting pinched closed.

I have never done it myself, but I have heard of people making a dam out of masking tape and putting JB weld on it to build it up. Then taking a file and filing it back down flat.

Are you talking about jb welding the hook part or the actual hole?
I did some reading and it seems the popular option is tapping it 1/2" npt and plug it. Pics I saw I couldn't tell if they added jb weld to the hook, looked like they didn't.
Looks like when I plug it though I can just put a normal gasket/spacer on it and dump the egr spacer gasket.
I'd prefer to just find a good one to buy, I'll spend the weekend looking and than call machine shops Monday and compare the costs if I find one.
If not 1/2" tap is on the way just in case.
I am talking about repairing the spacer so the gasket won't give you a vacuum leak and keeping the EGR functional. I thought that was your problem, that the spacer was corroded away and causing a vacuum leak where it mates against the gasket.
On the same page now. It is my problem but I wasn't talking about saving that piece and well never mind..
Would you do it? I never saw anyone suggest that yet in all the searching so far.
10 out of 10 posts are about deleting it and how.

Got me thinking a whole different way and now I'm wondering if I could use loctite 660 retaining compound (quick metal) or similar
more reading to do.
