Good Morning! I am working on my 1996 F350 Crew Cab XLT w/ a 7.5 Mass Air engine. I have been meaning to fix the p/s leak on this truck for awhile, and finally got into it! I installed a Cardone Remanufactured #20-7272F pump as well as new Gates pressure and return lines! I dtarted truck and cycled steering lock to lock 3-4 times and refilled resovoir and everything seemed good. Parked truck on dirt and two days later I moved it back onto cement driveway and was setting timing of distributor when I noticed p/s fluid dripping on ground. Sure enough p/s leaking. I remove air intake so I can see better and it appears to be leaking from pressure hose at pump. It is tight! So I took puump and pressure line back off truck and inspected inlet on pump and fitting on hose. both appear fine. so I put pump in my vise and started pressure line in fitting on pump and when nut on line is tight, nylon washer is nowhere near to touching the inlet fitting! So now what?? This shows a small flat tip screwdriver bit in between pressure line nut and fitting on my C2 p/s pump ! The fitting is tight, so I am pretty sure this is why it's leaking , but what to do ??
I don't recall exactly, but are you sure you have the right fitting screwed into the pump? I *think* it's an inverted flare port, and there are some NPT or even Metric fittings that will screw in, but they won't seal, no matter how tight you get them.
Might have to double check the hose part numbers. Shows that the pump could have standard or metric fittings. But they don't list the same options for hoses, that leaves alot of to chance it sounds like.
i am not sure of anything! I guess i am going to take my Gates hose to NAPA and see if they have any reman pump that has a different fitting! My hose threads into fitting on pump fine, but evidently doesn't seal worth a damn! Dale
