Now you say you hear it at the wheel well, but once the hood is open you will likely hear it coming from the top of the engine.
So I opened the hood and can very easily hear the sound on top of the engine or maybe
pre specifically the left side. Hard to tell. It sounds like someone is dragging a piece of chain behind them on concrete. What do you think?

Sounds more like the timing chains based on your description. The left cam phaser may be bad too.

If it’s still under warranty, take it to your local Ford dealer. If it’s no longer in warranty, do a web search for a local independent shop with the highest customer service ratings.

okay thanks for your help. I still think it could be the wastegates. I’ll see what ford says soon. Thanks!

It could be. It’s really hard to tell by listening to the video. But I have not seen any issues with turbos posted other than with connections. How many miles on it?

60k and otherwise drives like a dream. Zero noise after the initial start.

seems like it’s probably the driver side wastegate linkage. I could see it rattling this morning. I pinched the passenger side with no luck but will try to do the same on the driver side.

what’s the fix for this? New turbo?

All motors have some rattling when cold started at/near/below 0 degrees C. Warm it up, shut it off. let it set 10 minutes and restart it. Listen to see if you got the rattle back. If not your are good. If so you probably got front timing chain problems, most likely adjusters. Timing chain adjusters do break but usually that creates severe front engine noises. Check for codes. If you got timing chain problems you most likely have a code. Say a rich idle on one bank ! If you do have a code, resetting it may remove the situation entirely.
