Good idea. Pinto plumber does the same.

UPDATE: I haven't run the truck since Friday. I went out about 30 minutes ago to start it. It popped right off. It started right up! So that's been 3 full days.

As far as spacers, Ford just use a stack of gaskets stapled together. I find about four or five replacement gaskets is about right for me. If the old gasket isn't bad, I just drop the new one on top until the stack is about what Ford had. I doubt it makes much difference.
