Bleeding brakes computer involvement?

2019 F250

Is there any required computer interaction for complete brake fluid refresh? IOW, can I hook up my power bleeder and flush away, or have I got to involve ABS computers and such to complete the process?

Looks like nothing involving any on-board brains.

thats a ton easier than my wifes edge... you have to cycle the abs pump if you change fluid.

never understood why if it was not emptied. ??

Buddy had to go through that with his chevy. Thankfully we know someone with a scantool so they could cycle the abs system

Absolutely not necessary in any vehicle in my experience.

The only way to flush new fluid into the abs module is If you cycle the abs solenoids with a computer.

Needed? Not unless there's air in it from breaking the system open. But you'll have old fluid in it

Why would you want to change brake fluid in a ‘19 truck? Has the system been opened?

Do it once by doing it right.

The old days of brake bleeding are over.

I don’t understand why bleeding the “old way” (e.g. by applying pedal pressure and opening the caliper bleeder) isn’t effective?

Can somebody set me straight on this topic? I have conflicting info as to whether or not using the FORScan / ABS pump method flushes the entire brake line (one at a time) or just flushes the ABS pump?

So is the proper procedure to flush ABS pump first, then manually flush the brake lines the old school way?

Or does the ABS pump flush the entire line and you're done?

You can do it the old fashioned way and replace all the brake fluid except for a relatively tiny amount in the ABS module.

I do wonder why anyone would want to though. I’d consider it if the vehicle was 20 years old, the brake fluid was brown, and I was trying to make clean brake fluid a selling point. Otherwise, I don’t open a brake system unless it’s required for repairs. There’s no routine brake fluid change required for my vehicles.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic ( I think thats the correct term) meaning it absorbs water, and starts degrading after approx 2 years. It also degrades with heat, and brakes get VERY hot.

The degradation happens gradually, and few drivers will notice the fading power of the brakes.

I found this out when I replaced the brake fluid on my dirt bike. I was used to the brakes the way they were, and then I hit the front brake with the new fluid and it almost launched me over the bars. The braking power was literally night / day difference! Most situations won't result in a difference this dramatic, but in my experience the fluid does degrade over time. No way around that.

could not bleed using vacuum only at the caliper on my 14. needs abs activation or manual brake pedal actuation (how i ended up doing it).

While I haven't flushed the brake fluid in my F-350 yet, I've done flushes on many of my ABS equipped vehicles using my Speedi-bleed system without any problems. A brake flush is on my list of things to do this winter on my F-350. I'll be consulting the service manual before I do, but I don't expect to have to do it much differently than other vehicles. I do not have a hydroboost brake system and I don't know if the process is different for that or not.
