Ok,,, Got into a little discussion concerning the year of my 79 4.9 engine
The Numbers are D5TE-2015AA 79D12
The guy was saying it was a 75 because of the D5 and I was under the impression D5 TE number was the casting design date??
This is a 70 250 and when I removed the rods and mains the bearings looked original, Stamped Ford 1979.
If anyone has time can you correct me if I am wrong.
Exactly how do you read these numbers correctly?
Thank you, Alex
You are correct. Those are just the engineering numbers. You should be able to find a 4 digit alphanumeric date code that is the date the block was cast. The first number is the year, the second letter is the month, the last two digits the day of the month.
Thank you for your responses. He was one of these convincing guys that is hard to discuss known facts with.
He had me doubting myself? LOL
As always,,Thank you all again..
Alex
