1987 F-250 original horns are shot. Not finding any aftermarket ones. It's the one with the Hi & Low horns on a Y shaped bracket just behind the left headlight.
I have a couple of stock original hi/lo horns from 1994, they are Flamm brand.
^^^^^^
I took some orig. horns out of a wrecking yard 1994 F150 and easily bolted into my 1966 Bronco.
Vast improvement in tone and loudness over the earlier horns.
One bolt and it is in and the used horn was only $10 or $15
What about some that are actually louder with a bold sound to them? Thought about finding some old horns like the tri horn setup from Cadillac in the 60s or the later tri horn setup that was on some Cadillac and Buick cars. I don't think Ford ever offered any such thing. Not interested in juvenile air or train horns.
Fiamm shows on their site the 'Freeway Blaster' is 8dB louder than their standard horn. Seem to work fine for me when I install them on various vehicles, best was being rid of that weenie high pitched horn on my '05 Civic run-a-bout for the Freeway Blaster set. Now it actually sounds like a truck and has stopped people twice.
My pal swapped in Buick full size horns on his Geo, it is pretty funny.
You know, I don't even care if my rigs *have* a horn. I'd never use the damn thing. My CJ and my hotrod don't have them. I know the one on my '75 doesn't work, I have *zero* clue if the one on my '87 works or not.
Are those basically stock replacements or are they louder or bolder sounding?
I don't know, I had not heard the originals for so long. They probably are louder & sound pretty good. An earlier poster commented that he didn't even know or care if his horns worked. (I'm thrilled). Here in Vermont you must have a functioning horn to legally pass a state inspection. Also if I were to witness someone about to back into something (or Heaven forbid) someone, I want to be able to try to get them to stop.
You need a horn, and not just a squeaky little one if you plan to drive the 465 Loop around Indianapolis or the 69 from Indy to Muncie. Too many boneheads paying no attention to the road, totally engrossed in their cellphones instead. We put the freeway Blasters on the wife's 2005 Explorer to replace the soggy sounding things Ford put on it, a huge improvement. I'm putting air horns on my truck, something like you would find on a European bus. Not an annoying loud, just a "Look Out, Idiot!" loud. People around here are so out of it, just a few days ago, somebody pulled out of a side street that had clear views, broadsiding a fire truck headed to a call Code 3. that kind of out of it.
