well i was out wheeling when i got into my usual stuck situation. so i got a tug from behind, but i had to remove my new tail pipe section to keep it from getting mangled. well i now have just a turn down on there and it sounds so much better! my 400 now sounds like a monster! so just to let anyone who is thinking about a new exhust, save the money and just run a turn down pipe after the muffler! saves you the headace of worring about messing it up off-roading, and sounds mean!
by the way, any down sides to running this set up? what about deep water and mud? if i don't shut down the engine is shouldn't be a problem right?
Does it sound anything like straight pipes? To me, straight pipes sound raspy and just loud. Annoyingly so. There's no tone or depth to the sound. You shouldn't have a headache after driving around for an hour in your truck!
well if you mean straight pipes, and no muffler then no. i have this turn down right after the muffler. plus i have a magniflow muffler and these muffler sound great, even better now! not raspy at all, and if you keep your foot out of it (not me!) it's got a deep control rumble to it.
i have also thought about making a det of turn downs to bolt up to the header flanges so i can run strait headers, it i ever wanted to try a mud bogg. anyone have thoughts on this? i know it will be loud.
if your wanting the option of exhaust or open header summit has 3 different types of dumps i believe. one type that welds up to the header and exhaust pipe with and unboltable dump another that is the same process but to activate the dump it has something like a manual choke carb cable that allows you to open the headers up from in the cab. so when your at a stop light and you have a fart-piper next to you reving his weed eater you dont even have to get out of the truck to rattle the ricer. iam thinking about the same type of set up myself
just checked them out the 3 brands are: flowtech, mr. gasket, and summit
summit cut outs- weld in dumps with unboltable section
flowtech race readies- same as summit cut outs
mr. gasket cut outs- cable and lever operated dumps
both summit and flowtech i believe you can get in sizes from 2" to 3"
the mr. gaskets are only in 2"
