Yeah, with 35's and the setup you've got, I'd go 4.56 or 4.27 (no idea if 4.27's are available for the 8.8 or not.)

Doesn't matter, unless you've done something to up the compression, or changed the cam to move where horsepower and torque are maxed out at, Stock numbers are still going to apply.

You won't find anything deeper than 4.10's in the junkyard. And they might exist, but I've never seen a factory 8.8 with 4.10's

For the sort of gearing that's being discussed, you'd need to go aftermarket.

*most* of what you find in the junkyard is going to be 3.08s or 3.55s in my experience.

You may have increased the TQ slightly with the exhaust. That K&N hot air intake system makes a pretty piece of wall art or trash can weight. If the compression is stock and the cam is stock specification you are still in 260 lb./ft. of torque range. Perhaps you bumped it to 270. Hard to say, but you are ahead of a completely stock truck with aged exhaust components.

Gears are going to have to be sourced then installed in your rear carrier.

8.8s with 4.10 gears were common in Rangers and Explorers with the 4.0.

It's your money, do what you want, but it seems like a waste to me.

You might get *very* lucky, and be able to pull the ring and pinion from a used source, toss it in yours, and not have to shim anything, but it's not bloody likely. Bare minimum, usually when changing a ring and pinion, you're going to need to be replacing the pinion bearings, crush sleeve, and pinion nut. So if you like buying parts more than once, That's entirely up to you.

In a stock level of horsepower? A lunchbox like the spartan will work fine. You'll be very unlikely to break it.

That being said, if you've never driven a rig with a locker before, especially on things like Icy roads, they do take a bit of getting used to.
